I was grew up in a suburb of Madison, Wisconsin. While Wisconsin is a beautiful state and wonderful place to live, I came to Guatemala to learn about different ways of living life. I believe that each culture has a lot to offer, and if I can combine the best of all of them, I can be a better person. I enjoy visiting my mom, dad, and sister over the holidays and sharing all my experiences with them. My favorite part about living here is that I'm always learning and experiencing new things; sights, sounds, history, artichecture, food, language, clothing. As I share my culture and knowledge with you, you are teaching me as well.
I am an artist just as much as I am a teacher. While I enjoy creating with any medium, ceramics is my favorite. The freedom that clay allows gives me the "permission" to mess up. I don't hesitate or hold back when I am creating with clay. I also feel that freedom when doing additive and subtractive drawing with charcoal. I enjoy painting with a friend at her studio here in Guatemala City. You can see some of my work below.
I enjoy a variety of things in life and I'm always open to trying new things! I am a very active person; I enjoy hiking, running, waterskiing, scuba diving, lifting weights, and playing volleyball. I love to cook and share tasty meals with friends. Reading to learn about the world around me continues to help me grow. People are very important to me. My family, friends, and students are all essential elements to my happiness and the balance I seek in life.
