Course Description

In Art 6 and 7 students will learn about themselves and the world around them using the visual arts as a vehicle.  Art is not just about making pretty things, it's about communicating to the world.  Images do not have language barriers, and they have the power to make people feel.  A picture says 1,000 words.  Visual communication will be emphasized by examining other artists creations and creating their own work with purpose.  Students will gain insight into other cultures and time periods by questioning artist inspirations and experiences.  After creating work of their own, they will reflect on where their work comes from and what it communicates.  A variety of media will be used: painting, pencil, charcoal, printmaking, scratchboard, clay, collage, and more.
