Project 1: Sculptural Instillation

Art 6 and 7 students will create rock-like pinch pots and paint them with symbols.  Students chose color, organic and geometric shapes, and used thin and thick lines to create movement.  Each rock is different, just like each of us are different.  When they are placed together they will represents the likeness between people and cultures.  Each piece includes a circle that represents unity.  In this installation one gold line will run through the entire piece to create a complete circle symbolizing our connectedness.

 

Each student in class will write three lines to add to a class poem based on the prompts: “I am unique because . . .”       “I am similar to my classmates because . . .” and “I am similar to people around the world because . . .”  The class will discuss how we have unique qualities, but also have many things in common with each other, even with people who can’t speak our language.  We can communicate with people through universal languages such as facial expressions, body language, and drawing pictures.
